  • confirm clipping/solid form

Magnetic Test

Method 2
Purpose
  • Exclude ferrous/stainless contamination
  • verify predominantly non-ferrous aluminum character
Acceptance Criteria
  • Weak to non-magnetic (aluminum expected)
  • strong magnetism flags ferrous contamination
Procedure
  • Magnet test on diverse sample clippings
  • assess ferrous attraction
  • confirm acceptable Fe <1.5%

Copper Identification Test

CRITICAL
Method 3
Purpose
  • Confirm low copper
  • visually detect brass/copper contamination
  • validate no high-copper alloys
Acceptance Criteria
  • No reddish brass coloration
  • predominantly aluminum silver color
  • no visible high-copper material
Procedure
  • Visual inspection
  • look for ANY reddish/brass coloration indicating copper
  • sample should appear aluminum-silver throughout

XRF Spectrometry

Oil Content Assessment

Method 6
Purpose
  • Evaluate cutting fluid and coolant contamination typical of machining waste
  • confirm acceptable level
Acceptance Criteria
  • Oil <2% (industrial machining waste tolerance)
  • heavy oil noted if >1%
Procedure
  • Visual/tactile assessment
  • identify oil residue level
  • note if cleaning recommended
