6000-Series Alloy Verification

Paint/Coating & Lead Assessment

Method 4
Purpose
  • Evaluate residual paint and anodize
  • assess lead-based paint presence (hazmat)
  • determine removal/stripping requirements

  • Paint <2%, anodize <1%
  • NO lead detected
  • coating manageable for recycling
Procedure

PVC/Composite Material Check

Method 5
Purpose
  • Exclude PVC weather stripping, vinyl gaskets, glass glazing, or non-aluminum materials attached to frames

  • Pure aluminum profiles
  • no PVC/composite/glass detected (or <0.5%)
Procedure
  • Visual inspection
  • physical test (attempt separation of any attached non-aluminum)

Elemental Analysis - ICP-AES or XRF

Method 6
Purpose
  • Verify Al ≥95%, confirm 6000-series composition, assess contamination (Fe, Cu, Pb, other elements)
Acceptance Criteria
  • Al 95-99.5%, Mg 0.6-1.2%, Si 0.4-0.8%, Fe <0.5%, Pb absent, all others combined <3%
