Visual Inspection

Method 1
Purpose
  • Confirm aluminum turnings (not ferrous/copper)
  • assess form and apparent oil saturation
Acceptance Criteria
  • Aluminum turnings/chips silver-colored (not reddish/copper, not gray/ferrous)
  • form consistent with machining waste
Procedure
  • 100% visual of all samples
  • verify aluminum appearance
  • assess chip form
  • identify oil saturation visually (dripping/wet vs. damp vs. dry)

Magnetic Test

Method 2
Purpose
  • Exclude ferrous tool debris or steel mixing
  • verify predominantly non-ferrous
Acceptance Criteria
  • Very weak or non-magnetic (aluminum expected)
  • minimal ferrous attraction
Procedure
  • Magnet test on samples

Oil Content Assessment
